Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) are an essential tool in assessing risks in high-risk work and reducing workplace injuries. SWMS are becoming ever complex documents, often 30 + pages long filled with unnecessary policies and procedures. The current status quo creates a “tick and flick” mentality whereby users memorise the appropriate responses and sign the bottom of the form, never actually considering their safety. Often the nature of the documents results in confusion and misunderstanding, thereby not fulfilling the statutory requirement that the SWMS be ‘understandable by persons who use it.’
Our product prompts users through selecting the applicable high-risk work activities, tasks, hazards/risks and controls utilising image based interactive prompts. It then asks the user to take a video of the site including discussion of the applicable safety elements. Video allows for site-specific recording whilst enabling ease of reviewing and training capabilities. The app allows for co-signing from workers (including notifications) as well as external reviewing by safety officers / site supervisors.
